  • Chapel: Operation Christmas Child was initiated. Watch for information next week about how you can participate.
  • Language Arts: Chapter 8 of Johnny Tremain has been assigned and the study guide is due on Wednesday, November 2. Open Note Test on Friday covering Verb Usage, Prepositions, Adjectives, Adverbs, Pronouns, and Conjunctions/Interjections

The weeks are just flying by and we will reach the end of the quarter on Friday. No "missing" work will be accepted at this point so that the 8th grade teachers can "wrap" up the quarter and have report cards ready for you next week. If you have not signed up for Parent-Teacher Conferences, please do so. Remember, if you are an 8C parent that you are signing up for a "Student-Led" Conference. Please be sure to sign up knowing that your student must be present.

  • Finishing up Student Led Conference Presentations
  • Language Arts: "The Conjunction" Parts of Speech Open Note Test on Friday -- Adverbs, Verb Usage, Pronouns, Adjectives, Prepositions and Conjunctions/Interjections. The PPT presenation is in the links section of this blog.
  • General Math -- Accelerated Math

Today's Work:
  • The students continued to work on their student-led conference presentations.
  • Language Arts: We completed a writing assignment in class and the students are to finish the Johnny Tremain Vocabulary exercise with their partner. Due Now.
  • Turn It In -- Congratulations to all who have successfully completed their first electronic submission. Papers should be graded and ready to review a little later this week.
  • The 1st Quarter ends on Friday. No missing work or late work will be accepted in the 8th grade after tomorrow in order for the instructors to "tie up" the 1st quarter data.

Today's Work:

  • Chapel: Mr. Beaudoin shared a great message of how we are "Chosen" to do many things.
  • Language Arts: 8C -- SB 165-168; All -- JT Ch. 7 due on Friday. Don't forget the two writing assignments. TurnItIn.com officially will be open to accept assignments after midnight tonight.
  • General Math: We are spending class time to review chaper 2. The test will be on Tuesday, October 25, in order to provide some additional time for review. Some students are really struggling with the concepts presented in this chapter.

Rainy Mondays....

We were dragging a bit today as we deal with the rain and the Angels' loss. Spring Training is just around the corner!
  • Student-Led Conferences: This concept was introduced to the 8C students today. They will be spending some time in the next few weeks preparing PowerPoint presentations which they will present to you, the parent(s), at Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 3-4. Sign-ups will be available in the office beginning October 24. Be aware that all 8C students are required to be present for their conference (since they will be leading) and I allow about 30 minutes per conference.
  • Language Arts: Writing Traits worksheet due on Tuesday. Johnny Tremain Chapter 7 due on Friday, October 21.
    • Writing Journal #7 due on Friday, October 21 (see writing blog)
    • 1st Quarter Journal Submission to www.turnitin.com due on Tuesday, October 25 (8:00 AM)

After a great presentation about Winslow Homer in our Art Master's program, the students returned the daily routine of classes. (8th grade art projects based on Homer will occur during the 2nd quarter)

  • Religion: No class due to Art Master's
  • Language Arts: Stimulating Ideas; Worksheet regarding this 1st trait of successful writing; Due Wednesday.

The week got off to a good start for the students in 8C!

  • Language Arts: DOL #25 -- Presentation on Diagramming Sentences --No Homework. Students did take notes in class on this presentation and will be finishing these notes tomorrow.
  • General Math: Using Mental Math to Solve Problems
