Merry Christmas From Our House to Yours

The presents are unwrapped and the trash hauled out and we are left with a tree that looks empty. However, we know that our Lord, Jesus Christ is the real reason for the season. While the tree looks empty our hearts our filled with His love and His grace. I pray that your season is filled with His love as well.

Have a very, Merry Christmas!

Thursday, December 8

This week has flown past and I just realized that I have neglected keeping this page up to date and for that I apologize. I have been "swamped" this week preparing for and now administering the Panther Pride Invitational. As you probably know, Miss Hale has been my substitute on Tuesday and Thursday in order for me to take care of the tourney. We have 16 teams participating in this event. (www.pantherinvite.blogspot.com)

Here are some notes to assist you:
  • Religion: The students have a Bible study entitled, "Beginnings". It is a study of Matthew that they started today and they should have prepared for discussion on Friday.
  • Language Arts: The students worked on "random" writing prompts today. They were due in class. They have also been placed into groups to complete a final project for the book "Johnny Tremain". They should be prepared to work in class tomorrow and on Monday.
  • General Math: The majority of the studens received an extensive diagnostic test from the Accelerated Math program today on the topic of "Integers". This should be complete by Monday. There are five students who still had an outstanding test and therefore, they will receive their printed copy once that test is complete. Take time to review with your student.
Grading Papers: I have fallen a bit behind on grading papers and will have everything caught up by the middle of next week. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

In Christ,

Mr. Maxwell

Friday

The Middle School attended the musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the La Mirada Community Theater in La Mirada. Upon returning, 8C took time to "Christmas" up the room and then attend the Geography Bee.. (five students from 8C were in the finals) After an intense competition, Nick from 7th grade became the Geography Bee champion.

Reminder: Johnny Tremain, Chapters 11 & 12 are due on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

Book Report

As announced in class, I have decided to cancel the December Book Report. The students have been working hard in a variety of areas and I felt that the load was a bit much. Students who have started on this report or would like to do this report, may do so for Extra Credit. The next book report will be due on January 28. Be sure to check the guidelines for details.

Thursday, December 1

Assignments for Today:
  • Religion: The Kingdom Parables -- We worked in groups in class to learn more about a specific parable. We will discuss on Monday.
  • Language Arts: We watched Dr. Seuss' original "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas". The students are to respond the video using the writing prompt that is posted on www.8writing.blogspot.com. (Due Tuesday)
  • General Math: Accelerated Math
Remember, tomorrow we go to the La Mirada Theater for "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat". We will leave from the church parking lot at 8:15 AM (sharp).

Congratulations to the Middle School

"Extreme Christmas" was a great success last night. Thank you for your support and your participation as the Christmas message was shared with many.
